Disaster management and social media are closely linked, and effective and accurate use can lead to better disaster management. Social media also played an important role in the city of Pune fighting with corona, said Murlidhar Mohol in Savitribai Phule university at the second Marathi Social Media Conference organized by Digital Media Lovers and co-organized by Savitribai Phule Pune University and Miracle Events. Tanmay Kanitkar interviewed former Mayor of Pune Murlidhar Mohol on “Pandemic, Media for Disaster Management”, in which Murlidhar Mohol mentioned his views about social/digital media. The organizers of the conference were Mangesh Wagh, Sameer Athalye and Pradip Lokhande. Large number of youth were present at the time of interview.

Corona had some limitations on other platforms of communicating with citizens during the pandemic. Then social media became a great platform for communication. A team was formed for social media communication. However, for that we were all working on the ground. It succeeded in gaining people’s faith and trust. People also supported us a lot during this tough time. Many people were connecting us through social media platform and cooperated us at that time. We were getting suggestions and complaints of many from social media. “I am feeling satisfied that I got chance to help many people” former mayor of pune Murlidhar Mohol said.
In the days of covid, with looking forward as our first priority was towards health of the citizens of our pune city, Murlidhar Mohol decided not to get involved in any political controversy. Not only me but people from all political parties in the city did not do politics in that situation says former mayor of pune Murlidhar Mohol. Therefore, we were very successful in handling the situation.
